Carpet Care and Maintenance

CARPET CARE

Protect Your Carpet Investment

Keep your carpet looking beautiful and extend its life with proper routine maintenance. Place floor mats inside and outside entrances to trap soil before it is tracked into your home.

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

Routine Care & Vacuuming

Regular maintenance is key to preserving carpet fibers. If you have carpet with thick loop pile construction (like Berber), it may be sensitive to brushing, rubbing, or scraping. To avoid fuzzing and pile distortion on these styles, use vacuums with suction action only. Be aware of color-destroying substances and address spills promptly.

IMMEDIATE ACTION

Handling Spots & Spills

For best results, give prompt attention to spots and spills before they set. Use a spoon or dull knife to remove solid materials, and always blot up liquid spills with a white towel. Never rub, scrub, or use a brush, as this may cause permanent damage to the carpet fibers. Remember to clean the fibers, not the backing, and work from the outside to the center of large stains to prevent spreading.

DEEP CLEANING

The Easy 1-2-3 Method

Most household stains can be removed using this three-step process, though oil-based stains require a dry cleaning solvent first.

Step 1: Mix ¼ teaspoon clear hand dishwashing detergent with 1 cup of water, apply to a white cloth, and gently wipe the dampened fibers without saturating the carpet. Rinse with clear, lukewarm water and blot.

Step 2: If the stain remains (and is not coffee, tea, or urine), mix 2 tablespoons of non-bleaching household ammonia with 1 cup of lukewarm water, apply, rinse, and blot.

Step 3: Mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 2 cups of water, apply, rinse, and blot to neutralize the ammonia. Weigh down paper towels over the area while it dries to absorb any remaining substances and prevent the stain from “wicking” back up.
